Making Softies

On the last 2 weeks, room 12 was learning how to sew. We started with a little square fabric to practice on, we practice to sew straight lines, curve lines, spirals and any other shapes. We also had to have a wrong side and a right side, so all the knots will end up in the wrong side and so it will look so cool on the right side.
When we did enough practice we went to making our softies, but first we had to plan what our softies would look like and get the fabric that were going to use.
The softies that were doing are owls.
When we've done planning our owls we started cutting them into their shapes. When we've done all of that,  Mrs Parkinson told us to sew our wings, eyes and beak.
After we've done that we could sew them together, now this is where the tricky part comes we had to do the whip stitch and the running stitch.
I was pretty slow doing my owl but it turned ok at the end.
The early birds who finished early they add some capes and jackets and all other things. We all had fun making our owls.

Swim Safe

On the 12th of November, the senior syndicate went to swim safe. It was really fun and we learnt a lot of swimming techniques, we learnt how to save someones life if they are drowning and I learnt how to do breastroke and swim in a really deep pool. We all had lots of fun. ^ _ ^

Seniors Farm Trip

On Wednesday 7th of November the seniors went on a farm trip. We explored the farm and tasted  the milk, most of the kids liked it but a few didn't. Some of the kids played rugby. We all had lots of fun on the farm.

Paired Writing

In room 12 we've been doing paired writing. Mrs Parkinson paired us up with someone. My buddy was Arzoo and I was her tutor. I've improved by thinking fast what my story is going to be about and putting full stops and commas in my writing. I think Arzoo is much more confident with her writing now than at the start of paired writing and her spelling has improved. The things that challenge me was sometimes I didn't know what was the best word for the story that she was writing about.

My Speech

on Wednesday 6th  of June room12 presented their discovery speeches I was really nervous about my speech, my speech was about Thomas Edison. I think I did well using my clarity of voice, memorizinig my speech and having a prop. Improvements I think I have to make more informations about how he did his inventions and making more eye contact and what I learnt about Thomas Edison is that never give up easily.

Term 3

This term I'm looking forward to focusing on Olympics, the Disco and Cross Country training. I want to improve on doing my work fast and my maths. One thing I would like to do is to get our 20 marbles so we can have a game or something else.

Maths

In room 12 we've been learning a lot of maths.  In my group, Porohita (Circle), we've been learning to solve problems like 23+__=71 by jumping a tidy number and then jumping back a small number in a number line.
example: 46+__=92 we go 46 +10 until we get to 96 so the number of jumps we made was 50.  We have to take away 4 from 96 so that will equal 92 then take away 4 in 50 and that  equals 46 so 46+46=92 and thats what we've been learrning at maths.

The Swimming Sports

On Thursday 8th March we had our swimming sports and it was so exciting because all of the seniors were supporting their teams. We got there by bus, we went to the park beside the pools and then went swimming. The House colours are Rutherford, Hillary, Batten, Ngata and I am in Rutherford. My team members are Emily, Temple, Tia, Corban, Melissa and me. It was so fun because everybody was cheering and shouting for their teams and we got to do a song and every house colour has a house captain. We have Emily for Rutherford and she made this really cool song and it goes like this "Ngata Ngata in the bin Hillary Hillary further Batten Batten on the top here comes Rutherford squash you lot GO RUTHERFORD". So what did I do on swimming sport day? I did Backstroke length and I came 4th and freestyle widths and I came 5th. After all the children finished swimming we did the class relay team's and we WON. I was really proud of Room 12. After that we had to race the parents and we won too " YAY " . That's what happened in swimming sports day.
